[944cup] [11/1 - 11/2/03]

On Nov 1-2, 2003, there were three 2.0L 924's ducking it out in Round 6 of the 944 Cup,  a race series dedicated to the front engine watercooled Porsche with a year end points championship, sanctioned by NASA, at Summit Point Motorsports Park. This was probably the largest field of 944/924 Cup cars assembled to date with 24 and the future looks very bright for the series next season. As always Dave, Ricky, and the Ratcliffe's, made us feel right at home and there was plenty of great food for everyone. It's nice to see all the 944/924 drivers getting to know each other outside of our cars. Hopefully if we can encourage a couple of other 924 racers to join us, maybe we could convince the 944 Cup guys to allow us to have our own championship! Jerry Long was driving John Brown's car, #55, Ryoji Sumida was in his school bus yellow 924, #89 and Ray and Jeremy Jadczak were in #53. We all had a ball and we also had a lot of fun just getting to know each other and being able to talk shop with other 924 guys! The weather was great! Not a cloud in the sky and it was high 70's. Unfortunately, John Brown's car was having fuel pickup problems all weekend despite his repeated attempts to try to get it to run right. It was great to see at times we collectively pulled together to try to keep all three cars running and made sure to help each other out. Since we were paddocked together, it was very easy to work closely. It was Ryoji's first time on the track. He dropped the exhaust system at the first practice session.  He has driven his car for the qualifies and races without the exhaust. For Roy and Jeremy who split the driving duties, both posted their fastest times to date!  Ryoji was also right with them and Jerry was not that far off as well. Our cars were pretty evenly matched and it was fun to watch all three out there together.

The race2 had one major accident, an mustang in AI class hit into the tire wall and had only 4 clean runs, 2 at the start and 2 to the end.  The middle session was gwhole course yellowh.

FYI: Our lap times at Summit this past weekend would have put us towards the back of the pack of a typical SCCA ITB race at the same track.
